The 3D elements run on an original game engine built around DirectX 8. The ultimate goal for Islands is to have 'infinite' player capacity (by using the sort of peer-to-peer network systems found in Napster, Kazaa etc) ; most of the technology required for this is now in place. There is currently capacity for up to 16 worlds (this can easily be made limitless when required), each with up to 64 islands and with each island able to have up to 128 players online at one time. (Though this is all pretty much theoretical as the peak number of players on one island so far is around 30).

It's important to use your weapons well and adapt quickly, or you wil surely lose quickly! Each turn, you have a lot of different options available. You can shoot, or you can hide by burying yourself in the ground, like a bunker. All of these things make the game dynamic, and help the game come alive for players! Players can choose any mobile they want, dress their avatar in any fashion they choose, and enter battle! And if you win, you even bonus points, allowing you to dress in better clothes. Remember, winning is important, but you must also please the crowds, so dressing well also helps you earn more money -"bad" players can win, but this does not mean they will get a lot of points!
