Littleton, Mass.-November 26, 2002 -Prospero Technologies today announced the creation of a new company to focus on building and growing member-managed online communities. The new company is the result of a deal negotiated between Blue Frogg Enterprises, the previous owner of Delphi, and Prospero Technologies, the technology platform provider. The new company will be called Delphi Forums, LLC, and operated as a majority-owned subsidiary of Prospero.
Prospero also announced today that it has acquired the assets of Talk City. The Talk City site will be relaunched and managed by Delphi Forums, LLC. With millions of registered members on each service, Delphi Forums and Talk City together represent one of the largest member-managed community networks on the Internet.
"This is a very positive event for Delphi," said Scott Anderson, COO of Blue Frogg Enterprises and former operator of the Delphi service. "Long known as one of the best discussion sites, Delphi has now established itself as a successful community aggregator while many other communities have struggled or shut down across the Internet. Delphi has proved that an enthusiastic base of members contribute to the success of online communities but more importantly they are vital to the success of the business."
The two brands will continue to operate independently using Prospero’s technology and community hosting infrastructure. Prospero provides similar services to leading media, entertainment, and web brands including Washington Post, Fox.com, MLB.com, About.com/Primedia, and Amazon.com.
Talk City was shut down in August as the previous owner filed for bankruptcy protection. Talk City’s assets were acquired by Prospero through bankruptcy proceedings. The Talk City site is scheduled to be relaunched on December 3, 2002.
"Delphi Forums and Talk City are two of the best known community sites on the web. We see this as a great opportunity to leverage our heritage - almost 20 years of operation consumer online services - to relaunch Talk City and to continue building on Delphi’s success," said Dawn Ferragamo, General Manager of Delphi Forums. "The two services complement each other perfectly, most activity on Delphi takes place within message boards, while Talk City is best known for scheduled events and live chat. Initially we plan to operate Delphi Forums and Talk City as ‘sister’ services, but over time there will be cross promotion and possibly even "dual citizenship" benefits. The combination is incredibly powerful," concluded Ms. Ferragamo.
